Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.
After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he's facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.
All Katy can do is survive.
Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don't seem entirely crazy, but the group's goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?
Together, they can face anything.
But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?
Does this book not sound amazing to you? Because even after re-reading the books I am not tired of them, I just fall more in love with them after every page I have read. However I have finished reading Opposition which is the last book in the series and to be honest I cannot get over any of the events in that. Its just really different for me to read this book again knowing what happens in the next, it gives you a whole different view point.
I mean seeing how far Daemon was willing to go to get Katy back makes you want the kind of love they have because its so heart-achingly beautiful! Because from previous books we all know Daemon is not a "wear your feelings on your sleeve" kind of guy.
And there are many times through out the book (I don't know about you guys) where it had my throat constricting from trying not to cry, reading what Katy had to go through emotionally and physically was heart breaking, but then experiencing how it affected Daemon made it even worse because you should not have to witness you soul mate going through so much pain.
When Kate kills Blake, I'll be honest it was crazy knowing he got what was coming to him, but I think he should have been taken out in Opal, because he was causing everyone so much grief and aggravation. But then again, having the enemy killed so soon was what everyone would have wanted and expected, so well done to Jennifer for doing something different from the status quo.
Archer as a character was a very good guy, it was just unfortunate he could not help Katy sooner to stop her going through so much, but he needed Daedalus to respect him as the soldier he was being seen as. And as for Luc, it was nice to know Daemon and Katy had someone they could count on getting help from, even if it was limited and conditional on them getting the LH-11 (and his purpose for it gets revealed it Opposition)
Mattew's betrayal was harsh, because although people/ aliens go to drastic measures to keep there families safe, it doesn't mean trading one in the keep the rest, it means sticking it out and finding a way, to fight together, no matter how long it takes to earn your freedom. It was quite shocking when Dawson turned out to be the one to kill Mattew, and not Daemon instead.
As I said previously, family means sticking together, and just after Mattews betrayal which leads us up to the main events of the book, everyone has to make a choice to back out and hide or to fight for the right thing, for family. And that is what Ash and Andrew then do, they chose family...
The main event of the book was really shocking because it shows how desperate and ruthless Daedalus are just to get Daemon and Katy back under their whim. And this is where the group had to fight, but in the crossfire a lot of humans had been injured and hurt due to Daedalus' need to get the pair back. Out of a group of ten (Paris, Luc, Archer, Katy, Daemon, Dawson, Dee, Beth, Ash and Andrew) I did not expect their to be three deaths on the groups part. It was heartbreaking experiencing Paris' loyalty to Luc (despite the fact we do not know their history) as Paris pushes Luc out of the way from a shot from a PEP weapon (which is fatal to a Luxen, Hybrid, or Origin) and takes the hit instead instantly killing him. Next to go is Andrew who gets taken out by an Arum working for Daedalus, as Ash watches stricken by both her brothers deaths. And then she dies next, protecting Beth, who was about to take a hit from a PEP weapon also, that was quite a hard moment because Daemon was quite torn up about it too.
I would love to explain more on that, because a lot of you readers might feel angry at him and see it as a betrayal to Katy, however it is not and that can be understood through reading the book!!
The end is the biggest shocker of all, because if the story ended with it being happy, then there would be unrest amongst us readers, and what needs to be understood if you have not read all of the books is that neither humans nor the elders said it was okay for human and Luxen to mingle and heal. So from that you know there is always someone or something trying to keep the couples apart, so try and take a guess at what is going to happen in the next novel ;)
Anyway, I hoped you enjoyed this thorough review :)
Peace out until the next review guys :)
